The Hand of Wine & Wisdom

The Inspiration
The inspiration for the Hand of Wine & Wisdom is obvious: Peter Dinklage‘s portrayal of Tyrion Lannister, it was truly masterful character building!
I tried to capture Tyrion’s innate resignation to his undeserved fate whilst still showing his intelligence and the underlying strength of character and resolve. His face really does lend itself to an exaggerated faux-realistic style of heavy line work.
The Craft
This artwork was an absolute joy to burn, the wood behaved beautifully.
The beard and hair involved areas of fun freeforming to accommodate some hard grain. The areas of light shading help to bring out the creases and wrinkles in the face and the solid black areas of dark shadowing add real depth to the cheeks and eyes.
