Moonlight Homecoming
Guided by lantern light and faithful owl wings.

Follow the light home in ‘Moonlight Homecoming’. Featuring a silhouetted witch, her trusty black cat and snowy owl sweeping across a massive, glowing moon.
This original piece captures a serene journey back to a spired woodland cottage. Hand-inked against a shimmering backdrop of soft greens, blues and delicate botanical tendrils, it brings an enchanting touch of cosy witchcraft to your home.
The Inspiration
I sometimes think that maybe I was a witch in a past life as I am always drawn to the idea of magic, witches and familiars.
Some of my favourite characters in books are the witches, whether that’s Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg, Meg (Meg and Mog books) or Winnie the Witch. I love a witch.
So this piece came into my head while reading ‘A Witch in Wolf Wood’ by Lindsay Buroker. I liked the idea of a witch wandering around at dusk and heading home to a cottage that needs a lot of love and attention.
The Craft
‘Moonlight Homecoming’ started as a background I had made over a year ago on the gel press and had been sitting in a pile and forgotten about. The colours and mottling effect ‘spoke’ to me this day and after a lot of trying of different trees and houses and witches I eventually settled on the stamps I wanted to use and where they would be positioned.
The moon was stenciled first and then hills were blended on using a variety of different green inks. Some careful juggling of of masks had to be done to darken the sky and not effect the hills.
Once I was happy with the background I could start the stamping and then the meticulous tasks of colouring and adding details.
It was only when I’d finished that I realised it was missing something and that was the owl.
