The Fractured Mind
Look long into the void, and it stares right back.

Etched with the weight of forbidden insight, these wild, unblinking eyes betray a soul consumed entirely by ancient madness.
The Inspiration
The Fractured Mind is a depiction of a shattered mind viewed through a gaze and it resides within a triptych of disturbing “maniac eyes” along with The Crimson Wrath and The Shadowed Glare.
Born from a love of unsettling works, I had the idea for a series showing extreme close-ups of the eyes of a madman looking directly at the viewer through an opening. The Fractured Mind is so named because, clearly, something is very broken deep inside of the subject.
The Craft
Nearly all of the piece comprises of black line work, crisp and sharp. Gradient shading is used sparingly around the furrows of the face to show curvature and crinkling and to show the details in the light irises. Line shading is used as a contrasting technique to emphasise the bushy eyebrows.
The artwork is burned right to the edge of the ply, all the way underneath the frame to ensure the close-up works.
