Mithras the Grey Pilgrim
He walks quietly where shadows gather.

A solitary wanderer of the outer reaches, Mithras carries light to forgotten villages long abandoned by the High Citadel.
The Inspiration
Mithras is another smaller scale piece representing a wandering mage.
I realise that not everyone has space to display an A4 piece in their home and so I challenge myself to create pieces that are smaller in scale while retaining interest both for me, as the creator, and the buyer. Mithras is my attempt at creating an interesting piece of pyrographic art that evokes the larger pieces that I create. He’s quite stern and authoritarian, but I like him, nonetheless
The Craft
The crisp line work around the eyes mouth and hat is rendered in solidly burned black. The gradient shading on the hat and robes gives shape and form whilst the light shading on the beard hints at a straggly nature.
Working within the restrictions of burning onto A5 birch plywood, Mithras is created using strong lines and limited shading.
