Eldrin the Star-Gazer
Keeper of the ancient ley lines and elder staves.

Bearing the talismans of the first age, Eldrin channels celestial alignment to ward off the encroaching dark.
The Inspiration
Eldrin draws inspiration from Richard Harris‘s portrayal of Albus Dumbledore (see Alastor if you prefer Michael Gambon).
Wizards are a fun pyrographic subject and popular at fairs too. This piece is another of my challenges to myself : to capture a famous likeness on a smaller scale. The subject for this challenge is the well-known twinkly-eyed leader of the Order of the Phoenix.
The Craft
The dark line work on this piece has to be precise and sharp, particularly on the staff and the spectacles, with no margin for error. For this reason the piece was burned using a fine wire tip. The shading on the folds of the robes and the hat provides some relief from the dark block-filled areas whilst the jewellery is achieved by hinting at form rather than trying to render microscopic detail.
Using A5 birch ply as the foundation of this pyrographic miniature means that the main difficulty is that of rendering detail on a small scale.
