The Bank Holiday Craft Fair at Luss
Hosted by ourselves, Arrochar Crafts Presents … is our way of providing an opportunity for local crafters to come together a few times a year and sell their fabulous work.
This event spotlighted everything from photography to poetry.
The following is an account of the Bank Holiday Craft Fair held at Luss Village Hall as told by the Mist-Weaver as the Skald was away for a few days.
What had initally been forecast to be a wet day, started and ended as a beautiful, warm and sunny day. Consequently, the picturesque village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond, which was the venue for the craft fair, was extremely busy with visitors. This was a good sign for the craft fair.
Luss Village Hall is situated in the heart of the village, a lovely wee venue owned and run by the villagers. Whilst it is a small building, accommodating only 10 stall-holders, it has proved to be a popular setting for crafters and customers alike.

Arrochar Crafts
When attending and hosting more ‘mainstream‘ events like this one, we greatly adjust what we take to sell, as well as how we display those wares. Gone are the dark, gothic images/items and instead we display our lighter-hearted wares.
We get a lot of tourists in to these events and we know from talking to them that they are looking for “classy, Scottish keepsakes” and not the tourist “Nessy or see-you-jimmy hats”. (A direct quote from a lovely Canadian lady)
With this in mind we chose to take small pictures, bookmarks, small candle holders, our more celtic jewellery and handmade greeting cards.
Twigs Inspiring Gifts
Val from Twigs Inspiring Gifts is the first to get a mention.
Val creates gifts and poems inspired by nature. She uses natural materials such as wood, leaves and rocks to design and create gifts and keepsakes.
Her poems and inspirational quotes have become very popular over recent months. Going forward she wants to do more with this, so it’s always worth checking socials to see where she is next and what she is up to.
Thorgil's Leather and Jewellery & Sacred Scottish Silver
We were delighted that friends and talented silver smiths Morven and Math teamed up to attend the fair.
Both of them are talented silver smiths and their work compliments each other beautifully.
Math works in a very small scale way creating celtic themed rings and pendants.
Meanwhile Morven works more with nature, using leaves and wood to create shapes and castings. She is currently in the process of rebranding.
Stella Irving Photography
Stella from Stella Irving Photography is the next of our crafters.
Stella specialises in photographing the natural world. Her focus is always the beauty of the Scottish landscape and its wildlife. She rarely goes anywhere without her camera.
Stella has won awards for her photographs and has them turned into greetings cards, framed pictures and her ever popular calendars.
Painted at the Kitchen Table
Painted at the Kitchen Table is the fabulous Hilda.
Hilda is a regular at craft fairs across Central Scotland and has been for many years. Her handpainted glassware is always popular.
Hilda buys, recycles and is donated plain glass objects which she then paints. She free draws with tubes of leading paint on to the objects and once they are dried she paints them. You can watch her work at every fair she attends.
Mags Bags Glasgow
If you are looking for a bag then Mags Bags Glasgow is the lady for you.
Margaret loves colour, bright things and cats! She owns 3 and all are rescued.
She uses vibrant, patterned fabrics to create everything from shoulder bags to jewellery pouches.
Margaret can be found at many venues across Glasgow and the surrounding area.
Handmade Moments
Lisa from Handmade Moments was new to us in July and we liked her so much we invited her back in August.
She creates cute, colourful and quirky handmade gifts and pictures with comics, Lego and crochet.
Her crocheted potatoes are very cute, as are the pictures she has created of Scottish Lego pipers with various tartans. Who knew Lego did a figure of a bagpipe player, but they do!
Gingerpoppy Designs
A regular at our events is the fabulous Nicola from Gingerpoppy Designs.
Cresin Crafts
Another of our regular crafters is the talented Fiona from Cresin Crafts.
Fiona works with resin to create a unique range of gifts and accessories, from charcuterie boards and coasters to fun keychains and funky jewellery.
She can be found selling at many events across Glasgow and the surrounding area.
Christine Gemson Glass
Our penultimate crafter at the fair was the very talented Christine from Christine Gemson Glass.
Christine uses fused glass techniques to create beautiful ornaments and greetings cards.
Her work is always popular with customers and, despite being fragile, I am always amazed at how much of it is now jet-setting off around the world in suitcases.
Whilst Christine doesn’t sell online, she can be found at fairs around the area.
Local Artists Boards
Our final mention of the day goes to the Local artists group from Arrochar.
This talented group of ladies meet weekly at the 3 Village Hall in Arrochar to paint. Some use acrylic, some watercolour and some use pens and pastels to create stunning landscapes and wildlife studies.
All of the work is original art and not prints.
Their work can be found at the 3 Villages Hall and locally at fairs.
