The Inspiration
‘Glade of the Amanita’ takes inspiration from an image of toadstools that I had seen on social media and a recent watching of the Tim Burton version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. I knew I had toadstool stamps and wanted to create a dark image.
The Craft
‘Glade of the Amanita’ started with applying inks and ‘Dinkles’ to a gel press and taking an impression. I then stamped the two toadstool images onto the background so that I could then ground them and darken around them. Applying and blending the the graphite (dark grey) ink took quite a while as this had to be layered. In the end I resorted to adding nocture (black) just to get the edges really dark. The colours on the background needed to pop more so I reapplied them with a stencil brush.
Colouring the toadstools involved the use of pastel pencils. I was tempted to use purple and pink for the toadstools but in the end chose traditional red, which was actually yellow, orange, red and burgundy to create light and shade and depth.
Finally it was ‘adding the magic time’ with magic orbs and plenty of glitter glue.
